Amazon River Basin Evaporation in Average Year

The Amazon River basin located in the equatorial tropics experiences high levels of evaporation all through the year. A clear wet and dry season does not occur in this region but annually there is a slight reduction in the period May to August. The run-off map estimate less runoff during this same period of May to August highlighting the connection between these two parameters.

This high level of evaporation is sustained by high rainfall amounts throughout the year. High temperatures and solar radiation are the main drivers of the high evaporation levels observed in this region.
