The Lena is an arctic river which receives low levels of rainfall. Only from May are localised areas with high runoff apparent, but it are the summer months June to August when the highest estimates of runoff occur. From September onwards runoff decreases as during the winter months precipitation falls in the form of snow. This will not contribute to runoff until temperatures increase in the spring.
