Indus River Basin Soil Moisture for January 1985 - 1999

The basin is characterised by low precipitation and is predominantly fed by glacier and snow melt from the Himalayas. Consequently soil is very dry in the lower plains the river travels through which receive very little rainfall. The river is the main source of water for domestic use and irrigation.
