Mekong River Basin Land in Average Year

There is a division between north and south with the southern reaches experiencing greater variation in soil moisture than the most upper section of the basin. This is to be expected as the river is fed by glacier melt from the Tibetan plateau. From February to May dryer conditions persist; with the onset of rainfall the soil moisture for June to Nov. is higher. A drying trend can be seen to start from Dec. to Jan.
